Her Story

Why she chose a different path

For years, Dr. Jennifer Park practiced within the conventional medicine system — and for years, she felt the frustration of a 15-minute appointment clock that never left enough time to actually help her patients. She watched brilliant, motivated people cycle through prescriptions that managed their symptoms without ever uncovering why those symptoms were happening in the first place. She saw patients who had been told their labs were "normal" but felt anything but. She heard the same story over and over: dismissed, unheard, bounced from specialist to specialist without a coherent answer. She wanted to do something about it.

Her turning point came through her own health. Like many of the patients she would eventually serve, Dr. Park experienced a period of persistent fatigue, hormonal disruption, and gut symptoms that conventional testing failed to explain. Rather than accept that answer, she started researching functional medicine — a discipline that asks not just "what disease do you have?" but "why is this happening, and what are all the factors contributing to it?" What she found changed everything. Through targeted testing, dietary investigation, and a systems-based approach, she identified the underlying drivers of her own symptoms and resolved them completely. She became a patient who was truly healed — not just managed — and she committed to bringing that same experience to her practice.

One Life Medicine was founded on a simple conviction: that every patient deserves a physician who has the time, the tools, and the training to find actual answers. Not another referral. Not another medication layered on top of existing medications. Not five minutes of face time before being shuffled out the door. At One Life Medicine, appointments are long, diagnostic panels are comprehensive, and treatment plans are as individual as the patients they are designed for. Dr. Park practices here because this is the kind of medicine she always wanted to deliver — and because her patients deserve nothing less.

What is Functional Medicine?

Treating root causes, not symptoms

Functional medicine is a systems biology-based approach that focuses on identifying and addressing the root causes of disease. Rather than matching a drug to a diagnosis, functional medicine practitioners investigate the seven core physiological systems — gut and digestion, hormone and neurotransmitter balance, energy production and mitochondrial function, detoxification, immune function and inflammation, structural integrity, and mental-emotional health — to understand how they interact and where they are breaking down. This is how it differs from conventional medicine: instead of asking "which medication treats this condition?", the functional medicine question is "why is this system malfunctioning, and what can be done to restore its normal function?" The result is a deeply personalized approach that treats the whole person, not just a set of lab values or diagnostic codes.
